WE TAKE THE TRANSPORTATION OF GOODS by air for granted. But air freight did not blossom into a full-fledged industry until after World War Ⅱ. America's airlines got a kickstart from the federal government in 1925 with the passage of the Contract Air Mail Act (also known as the Kelly Act). This legislation allowed the Post Office Department to farm out contracts for transporting air mail to private operators.
