An application for a 60-hectare extension to the west of Barton quarry has been approved by Staffordshire County Council. The proposal involved extracting six million tonnes of sand and gravel from the site over 10 years. Production would continue at a rate of 600,000 tonnes a year, most of which would be used to supply concreting aggregate for the batching plant at the site, and some mineral would be imported for blending purposes.
