A joint venture led by Tetra Tech, a consulting and engineering services provider, has been contracted by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Sacramento District, to assess and manage risks for dams and levee systems in the western USA for up to five years. Under the US$ 110 million deal, announced on 2 November, Tetra Tech will perform site characterization studies, environmental assessments, engineering evaluations, and hydrologic analyses related to the safety of dams and levee systems. The project team will use advanced analytics and predictive modelling to assess structural in- tegrity and design risk-based management approaches for dam and levee safety. "Increased impacts from climate change have placed the nation's dam and levee systems under additional stress from extreme weather events," said Dan Batrack, Tetra Tech Chairman and CEO. "Tetra Tech looks forward to continuing to use the company's 'Leading with Science?' approach to support the USACE in reducing flood risks, maintaining public safety, and restoring ecosystems." It is the second contract awarded to Tetra Tech by USACE this year. In June the company was awarded a U$ 49 million architecture and engineering services contract by USACE, Louisville District, to support facilities throughout the USA. Under this five-year contract, Tetra Tech is providing environmental services for the protection and restoration of the natural environment, including designs, studies, surveys, and application of sustainable and technologies. Tetra Tech said it would leverage high-end technology and advanced analytics to address priority issues such as emerging contaminants, including per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
