In November 2021 the UK will host the 26th UN climate change conference (COP26) in Glasgow, bringing political leaders together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Prime minister Boris Johnson has called for coal to be consigned to history to limit global warming. He described the Sixth Assessment Report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published in August as "sobering" and said there needed to be a shift towards clean energy sources.
