Global drinks maker Diageo has started up two new canning lines in the US midwest to boost capacity in the flourishing ready-to-drink (RTD) sector. London-based Diageo has invested US$110 million in the 225,000 sqft facility at Plainfield in Illinois. The plant, called Diageo Lincolnway, has capacity to produce more than 25 million cases of canned malt-based beverages and spirits-based RTD cocktails annually. "The new canning facility will enhance Diageo's existing operations, strengthening our offering and accelerating our strategy in the ready-to-drink category," said Diageo North America convenience vice president Keara Funck.
