Wine is well on its way to becoming Australia's number one alcoholic beverage according to figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. WINE IS WELL on its way to dethroning beer as the preferred drink in Australia. In the past 50 years beer's share of the market has collapsed from an overwhelming 75 per cent in 1961-62 to just 41 per cent in 2011-12. In the same period wine's market share has climbed from a meagre 12 per cent to 38 per cent and if the trend continues looks set to surpass beer in the next few years.
