An aviation journalist/seaplane pilot has teamed up with an artist/airline pilot to produce a pair of books that introduce children to seaplanes while teaching the values of respect and friendship. The main characters are Baerlie, a small stuffed bear belonging to Sam, and Red-Nosed, a stuffed hedgehog also belonging to Sam. In the first book, titled Baerlie and Red-Nosed, the two friends decide to find adventure while Sam sleeps, and in their quest they encounter various animals who make fun of the two odd stuffed animals, and then a pilot who makes a forced landing at night in the forest. Baerlie and Red-Nosed feed the injured pilot fresh black- berries, which revives him until medics come to the rescue. In the second book, Bearlie and Red-Nosed Take Off, the pilot returns to the forest, this time in a seaplane, and gives Baerlie and Red-Nosed rides. The story ends with them overcoming their fears to parachute out of the seaplane onto the earth near Sam's house. The authors-German journalist Helga Kleisny and artist Michael Stefer-say they "firmly believe that you can achieve more with a positive approach than with a raised forefinger. And that you are more likely to achieve desired states if you already visualize them as normal states."
