摘要

The visit of the Northern Region of the RSFS to Alvie & Dalraddy Estates was both interesting and entertaining. Twenty members assembled on a pleasant and dry day, and were welcomed with coffee in the library of Alvie House by the owner, Jamie Williamson. In the mid-19th century 2,000 acres were planted with trees in a fenced area. They were largely Scots pine, but also Norway spruce and European larch. Many of these trees are still here today, as we saw later in the visit, and were very fine. However, those planted at the highest levels, c. 2,000ft, were, after nearly 200 years of growth, only 5m high.
