Shell has confi rmed its withdrawal from a BP-led carbon capture and storage(CCS)project in the UK after one of the venture's othermembers pulled out.The major has quit the Northern Endurance Partnership(NEP),which plans to transport CO2 from industrial clusters in northernEngland and store them under the North Sea.Shell has opted to focus instead on the Acorn CCS project in Scotland.In addition to BP and Shell,the other NEP stakeholders were TotalEnergies,Equinor and the National Grid electricity transmissionnetwork.But after National Grid decided to withdraw from the project-reportedly to focus on upgrading its network to cope with risingoutput of renewable electricity-Shell decided to follow suit after a review of its strategy and portfolio.The move marks the latest rethink of a project that Shell is involved in since Wael Sawan took over as CEO in January.Last month itdecided not to proceed with biofuels and base oils projects in Singapore.
