摘要

The helicopters transporting workers to and from offshore platforms are equipped with all the latest technology and flown by highly trained and experienced crews. They operate in harsh conditions that are officially designated as hostile environments, so safety is considered priority number one. What makes the helicopters exceptionally well suited to these challenging missions is a story for another day. Still, this is about how the crew and passengers protect themselves if the unthinkable happens. In any emergency, knowing what to do and having the right equipment are the fundamental building blocks for survival. So, it's easy to see how vital having those covered would be in a rolling gale in the freezing waters of the North Sea. It's also vital that flight crews know how to deal effectively with these hostile environments where the weather can go from calm to manic in a few minutes. Air International has looked at those three angles for this story to determine how well pilots and passengers are prepared for their daily commute.
