UK-based BWE has acquired by purchase all the intellectual property assets residing in the continuous extrusion process originally developed by the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and marketed under the trade name, 'Conform'. The technology was originally developed more than twenty years ago by the UKAEA as part of its nuclear fuel programme. The process, which produces near-continuous extruded metal sections, typically in aluminium and copper alloys, was recognised as having significant industrial potential. AEA Technology, until recently part of the UKAEA, developed Conform into a business and BWE, formerly Babcock Wire Equipment, was the first licensee appointed to develop and manufacture machines for industry.
