Gallagher Aggregates has completed an eight-hectare restoration of its Hermitage quarry in Maidstone, Kent. The quarry is thought to be one of the last two remaining Kentish ragstone quarries. The project, which took two years to complete, has seen the western areas of the quarry returned mostly to agricultural land. The site now features traditional hedgerows and a coppice woodland of native hardwood species including oak, cherry, field maple and silver to encourage wildlife such as kestrels and deer.
