The Latest: Ireland’s Data Protection Commission (DPC) has imposed a EUR1.2bn fine on Meta for breaching the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The fine was imposed on Meta for transferring EU users’ data to the US without adequate safeguards from government surveillance practices. The decision was finalised by the EU privacy regulator, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB), and Meta is yet to respond to the decision.
