摘要

Abstract In the present work, wooden furniture wastes were used as pore-forming agents for the manufacture of fired clay bricks. The main objectives of this study are (i) to investigate the impact of adding wooden furniture wastes into the clay body on the mechanical properties and (ii) to identify gas emissions during the firing process. For this purpose, five categories of wooden furniture wastes were selected and mixed, after grinding, with raw clay materials. The samples were extruded into green bodies and then fired at 950?°C. The influence of the type and amount of the addition of pore-forming agents (5 or 10 wt. %) on the mechanical properties of the fired samples was studied and compared to values obtained for lightweight bricks. Results showed that the formation of macropores slightly decreased the mechanical strength. The analysis of the chemical composition of the gas released during the firing process was carried out. Results were compared to literature for gases emitted in the manufacturing of porous masonry brick, using sawdust as a pore-forming agent. It was found that the gases released after the combustion of clay incorporating particle board wood wastes (PP) are not higher in content than those from the case of masonry brick using sawdust.Graphical abstract
