It is often said that cement manufacturing comes with 'unavoidable' CO2 emissions from the decar-bonisation of limestone. This assertion is often used as a precursor to arguments for the adoption of CO? capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) and by the sectors detractors when arguing for the adoption of other building materials. There are, of course, many ways to reduce the CO2 emissions from cementi-tious products, many of which have been covered extensively in these pages. Combining these, along with targeted use of CCUS would go a long way to decarbonisation of the cement sector as a whole.
