JetPack Aviation (JPA), a developer of jet-powered vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) compact aircraft and personal flying devices - including a stunning demonstration in a jetpack flight around the Statue of Liberty in 2015 - made several announcements over the past few months. The Ventura, California-based company announced in late January that it will provide pilot and maintainer training to an unnamed military customer in Southeast Asia for its jetpacks. The deal marks the first time that JPA has provided professional training to a team of serving personnel, and a step towards what the company hopes is a more widespread adoption of its novel technology. The agreement is the latest collaboration between JetPack Aviation and that customer. In September, JPA announced its inaugural sale of two JB12 jet packs to the same customer in a deal valued at $800,000. JPA said the JB12 is a classified, military version of the jetpack that, like its predecessor the JB11, is powered by six turbojet engines, each capable of producing 90 lb (400 N) of thrust. Under the new contract, JetPack Aviation will provide training in summer 2022 for two pilots and two maintainers at the company's California facility.
