Cities are the main engines driving our economies, with 56%of the world’s population living in urban areas, a number projectedto rise to 68% by 2050 (United Nations, 2018). Citiesattract people by offering job opportunities as well as bettereducation, healthcare and living standards in general (Tsuiet al., 2015).In recent years, cities have been increasingly hit by extremeweather events and various stressors, such as climbing averagetemperatures, rising sea-levels, loss of biodiversity and damageto ecosystems (Mukim and Roberts, 2022). At the same time, cities contribute to climate change, producing about 70% ofglobal greenhouse gas emissions (Dasgupta et al., 2022), withbuildings and transportation being the leading causes of theseemissions.
