The North Carolina Railroad Co. (NCRR) was named one of several partners involved in Siemens Mobility's plan to build a $220 million rolling stock manufacturing plant and rail services facility in Lexington, North Carolina. Through NCRR's economic development initiative NCRR Invests, the short line will provide $1 million to assist with rail infrastructure construction costs. The plant is expected to produce about 264 passenger coaches per year at buildout. Norfolk Southern Railway also is an investment partner in the facility, which will be considered a "sister" to Siemens Mobility's plant in Sacramento, California.
