摘要

The conventional steel rigid connections that are presented in design codes are applicable for wide-flange or box-shaped columns. In I-shaped beam to circular column rigid connection, it is not possible to install continuity or doubler plates in the column and therefore this type of connection can face problems. The aim of this study is to present a suitable detail for the I-shaped beam to circular column rigid connection that is both practically reliable and convenient to implement. To that end, six full-scale experimental samples were constructed and subjected to cyclic quasi-static load. The first sample incorporated a direct connection between the I-shaped beam and the circular column, the second sample was a connection with a linking Channel, and the remaining four samples were connections with stiffened Channel links. The results show that using the stiffened Channel with stiffeners installed along the beam's flange significantly improves the performance of the connection, and compared to the first sample increases the strength and ductility of the connection by 100% and 50%, respectively. These connections satisfy the required criteria of special moment resisting frames and thus can be employed in seismically active areas as an appropriate detail for I-shaped beam to circular column rigid connections.
