摘要

Pitaya has been successfully cultivated in Brazil. Hylocereus undatus (Haw.) Britton & Rose is one of the main commercialized species in the country. The use of industrial fertilizers provides the nutrients required for plant growth, but increases the cost of production. Thus, the use of organic fertilizers (bovine manure) is an alternative for supplying nutrients and reducing cost on the pitaya production. The objective of our study was to evaluate the effect of organic fertilization on the initial growth of red pitaya (Hylocereus monacanthus) under northeastern semi-arid Brazil. Five doses of bovine manure (0, 5.33, 10.66, 21.33 and 49.33 kg plant~(-1)) were used. The growth characteristics such as plant height, stem diameter, number of stems were evaluated three months after planting. There was a significant effect for the variables plant height and number of stems. The doses of maximum agronomic efficiency for plant height and number of stems were 43.11 kg pit~(-1) and 49.33 kg plant~(-1), respectively. There was no significant difference for stem diameter. The dose of 49.33 kg plant~(-1) of bovine manure promotes better performance of the plants being suitable for the cultivation of pitaya at the studied northeastern semi-arid region.
