Major airlines in the U.S. desperately need more pilots, and some are taking matters into their own hands. While carriers in the past were mostly content with smaller-scale talent development programs, the growing deficit of commercial pilots is leading some airlines to assume a more hands-on role, opening flight schools that function as farm systems where they can train and mentor future pilots with conditional job offers from Day 1.
