Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) conducted two months of cold weather testing of its Light Armed Helicopter (LAH) in Canada. The tests, which began on Dec. 6 and lasted nine weeks through early February, were carried out at Yellowknife Airport, Northwest Territories, according to a Dec. 2 press release by the territorial government. Around 40 KAI engineers, pilots and support staff were involved in evaluating the aircraft's performance in the sub-zero temperatures. The news comes one year after South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) declared the LAH, a licensed version of the Airbus H155 Dauphin, ready for combat (see "KAI Moves Forward with Korean Helicopters," Vertiflite, Jan/Feb 2021). In October, KAI chief engineer Lee Il-woo told reporters that the LAH project remained "on track to meet all major milestones."
