Hydro invests in new production technology at Ardal. A newly developed control system at Hydro Ardal's aluminium smelter reduces energy consumption and supports Hydro's long-term ambitions for the plant. The HAL5000 pot control system is developed by the technology team at Ardal and provides more efficient control of aluminium production. Together with upgrading equipment on the electrolysis cells, the technology contributes to increased production, reduced electricity consumption and lower CO_2 emissions. The annual savings will be around NOK6m.
