The Ju 88 must rank as one of the best light bombers used by any of the warring nations in WW2 and surely one of the most versatile as evidenced by the number of roles it filled. Perhaps only the Mosquito could surpass it in terms of versatility. Capt. Eric Brown stated that in terms of pure flying it was second only to the Fw 190. Given the state of the German aircraft industry during the latter part of the conflict, it was only a matter of time before the Ju 88 was tasked as a night-fighter, a role in which it excelled.
