East Japan Railway Company (JR East) has 7,400 km of operating lines, of which 1,250 km are concrete bridges. Some of our concrete bridge structures are older and exposed to harsh environmental conditions, and we need to properly manage these structures. The inspection of concrete bridges is conducted by in-house engineers, and human resource development is continuously conducted to ensure the quality of the inspection. In anticipation of a declining population and aging facilities, the company is considering further streamlining inspections and reducing the amount of labor required.
