Investigations and studies on many aspects of urban drainage have been carried out through the Urban Drainage Subcommittee (UDS) under The Canada-Ontario Agreement on Great Lakes Water Quality.The background on the inter-governmental agreements which led to the formation and funding of the UDS is outlined. The general concerns with urban drainage which the Subcommittee intended to address, the specific terms of reference under which it would function and the various activities, programs and studies are highlighted.Finally, a discussion is presented on the aims, objectives and direction which Ontario’s policies for urban drainage control will likely follow.
