US-based global can-maker Crown Holdings is planning to expand its UK footprint with a third beverage can plant to be set up at Peterborough in the East Midlands. The 625,000 sq ft plant's construction will begin in the second quarter of 2022 with the first D&I line expected to start commercial production in the second quarter of 2023. Additional lines will be installed as demand requires to reach capacity three billion cans a year. The precise location was not revealed, nor the investment, which is likely to be more than $150 million, eventually generating jobs for 280 people.
