This book makes for the sixth and final tome that David Hobbs has written on the fine subject of the Fleet Air Arm, covering the development of the FAA's capabilities as a fighting force over the course of the war in Europe. The author takes us through the challenges of the inter war years leading up to the start of the Second World War and the structure of the FAA at that time. Chapter by chapter the book outlines the different actions that took place, the tactics and aircraft used, details of the crews and the ships they flew from, along with explanations couched in a technically correct but readable format. The book acts as a record of the FAA's achievements during the Second World War, listing actions against targets such as the Bismarck, Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, and the Tirpitz, as well as the Norwegian Campaign. Each operation is listed separately, making for easy reference.
