The Remade Institute, based in Rochester, New York, is investing USD43 million in new technology research focused on improving the sustainability of manufacturing operations. Today, manufacturing accounts for 25% of US energy consumption at a cost of USD150 billion. Industry is also the third largest contributor to US greenhouse gas emissions at 22%. Remade's experts and partners are working to reduce these amounts, as indicated by the company name: Reducing Embodied Energy and Decreasing Emissions. Remade says it is committed to boosting the transition to a circular economy through development of leading edge sustainable manufacturing technologies to make real, near-term environmental and economic impacts. The linear economy, with a 'Take, Make, Dispose' approach is no longer sustainable, while a circular economy, with the approach of 'Make, Use, Recycle' is truly sustainable.
