Aldel insolvent: The Dutch smelter Damco Aluminium Delfzijl (Aldel) in Groningen was declared insolvent by a Court in Noord-Nederland on 28 October. Aldel stopped producing aluminium some time ago due to high energy prices and the lack of government support. This is the third time the smelter has gone insolvent. The company was the subject of a management buyout at the end of last year, when its owner York Capital sold it to chief executive Chris MacNamee. The smelter produced more than 110,000 tpy of aluminium and recycled a further 50,000 tpy of metal.
