Salzburger Aluminium Group (SAG) has recently commissioned a solar power plant on the roof of its production halls in Schwarzach, Austria. The 1,200 m~2 solar plant can generate an average of up to 230,000 kWh of electricity per year. Compared with electricity from fossil fuels, this can save more than 20 tonnes of CO_2. In combination with energy from its own hydro-power, SAG will thus use 100% green electricity for tank production. As part of the group-wide sustainability programme, further investments in solar plants are planned, including for the headquarters in Lend. The company's own Achen water power plants have always covered a good part of the electricity requirements of the Austrian plants and at the same time supply households in the region with electricity from hydropower.
