Astudy was undertaken from May 2019 to February 2020 to assess the prevalence of etiological agents associated with anaemia in goats in the Cauvery delta region of Tamil Nadu. A total of 100 anaemic goats were screened for the status of helminthic infection, haemoprotozoan diseases, micro-minerals (iron and copper) and vitamin B12. Among screened animals, iron deficiency (27%), helminthic infection (21%), mixed iron and copper deficiency (19%), combined iron, copper and vitamin B12 deficiency (8%), mixed infection of helminths and Anaplasma sp (8%), haemoprotozoan diseases (7%), iron and vitamin B12 deficiency (4%), glucose deficiency (4%) and protein deficiency (2%) were identified in anaemic goats. The micromineral deficiency was predominant causeof anaemia in goats than helminthic and haemoprotozoan infection. The haemoglobulin, total erythrocyte count, packed cell volume, total protein and albumin were significantly decreased in anaemic goats with combined iron, copper and vitamin B12 deficiency than other anaemic etiological agents. Iron deficiency was higher in young goats than adults. In anaemic goats, the prevalence of helminthic infection, haemoprotozoan diseases, mixed Cu and Fe deficiency, combined Fe, Cu and vitamin B12 deficiency, both Fe and vitamin B deficiency was higher during the winter season followed by monsoon seasons. More than 75% of goats in the population studied were deficient in iron, which was observed as single, combined and along with helminthic infections. It was inferred that prophylactic supplementation of iron, copper and cobalt along with anthelminthic therapy would be useful inanaemicgoats infectedwithhelminths.
