Britain is taking its first steps toward becoming a player in the defense space domain by targeting the introduction of an on-orbit intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capability toward the middle of the decade. The plan for a £970 million ($1.3 billion) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) constellation outlined in the newly published, long-awaited Defense Space Strategy aligns with the UK's vision to be a "meaningful actor in space," UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace says. The announcement marks the start of a humble approach to the UK's defense space endeavors.
