It's important to explain our climate here. We are in 'Zone 8b', but I need to elaborate. Our normal winters consist of ten nights of 30-32 degrees F deg (-1-0 deg C) minimum, perhaps twenty nights of frost, 32-40 degrees F deg (0-10 deg C). Every five years or so we have a few nights in the low 20s, only very rarely below 20 (-11 deg C). Winter is mild and damp, but when a 'Norther' comes in, it's dry, cold and windy. Humidity can drop into the single digits and the temperature can drop from high70s to high 20s in twelve hours. It rarely snows. In late Spring, we may have five inches of rain in one night and plants' roots may be waterbound for a week.
