ABSTRACT The heat transfer characteristic of nanofluids is tremendously improved by suspending a nano-sized solid particles with a diameter below 20?nm and are considered as prospective working fluids for many applications. The present investigation describes the synthesis of naphtha carbon soot nanoparticles, its characterization, and pool boiling heat transfer the behavior of 0.5 and 0.75 by volume suspended within deionized water over a stainless steel tube heater of 9 mm diameter and 0.5 mm thickness. The result shows that the enhancement of heat transfer coefficient is achieved for 0.5 and 0.75 concentration by volume at 50?kW/m2 is 4.712 and 5.94, respectively, and at 963.95?kW/m2 heat flux 32.5 and 38.74, respectively. Also, the critical heat flux (CHF) decreases with an increase in nanoparticle concentration. The results reveal that the enhancement is due to the addition of naphtha carbon soot nanoparticles with an increase in water the surface area of heat transfer, and the increase of surface roughness after the experiment from 0.738?μm to 2.095?μm is also one of the factors. It was also observed that the enhancement factor was higher for lower heat flux, which is decreased for higher heat fluxes due to high large size bubble formation and very high dynamics of nanoparticles, but, it is found that the overall heat transfer characteristics of water is enhanced with the addition of naphtha carbon soot nano particles.
