Charleston- Alpek said it has shut down its polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin operations at its Cooper River site near Charleston, S.C., for an indefinite period. The site has an installed capacity of 170,000 t/y of PET resin, representing about 2 of Alpek's total assets. The production will be transferred to the company's other sites, enabling cost reductions of around $20-million at an annualized rate and improvements in capacity utilization.
