China Customs reports that China exported 18,507m garments during January-November, up 15.3, for US$43,914m, up 19.1, at an average price of $2.37/pc, up 3.04. In recent years, exports of clothing have shown a steady increase, thanks to WTO membership. In 1997 China exported 8,806m garments for $25,956m, and in 2001 the quantity rose to 12,494m for $29,431m, showing an average yearly growth of 9.14 in quantity and 3.19 in value. In 1997 the average export price of clothing was $2.95/pc, but in 2002 it fell to $2.25/pc, in 2003 rising to $2.30, and in January-November 2004 to $2.37/pc. The major destinatins for China's clothing exports remain Japan, Hong Kong, the US, Korea and Russia. During this period China exported 2,844m garments to Japan, up 6.4, for $11,231m, up 13.3, at an average price of $3.95/pc, up 6.5. To Hong Kong China exported 5,247m garments, up 16.1, for $7,599m, up 17.3 at an average price of $1.45/pc, up 1.4.
