Boosted by higher production numbers in 2021 and signs of progress toward certification of the Bell 525 super-medium model, the helicopter-maker is optimistic of a continuing rebound in fortunes for its commercial rotorcraft sector through 2022. "Despite the continuing challenges in 2021, it was a bit of a bounce-back year for Bell commercial," says Michael Thacker, executive vice president for innovation and commercial business. "Demand returned across our business, particularly in North America. New aircraft sales and aftermarket demand both improved substantially over 2020 levels." Describing 2021 as "a very positive step in the recovery from 2020," he adds that "thus far in 2022, we appear to be getting off on a good track as well from a business perspective." Part of this is driven by brighter prospects for the Bell 505 light helicopter in the training and para-public sectors, with the easing of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions particularly benefiting recovery of the former.
