In the first two months of 2021 base metals and commodities in general had one of the strongest starts in the last decade: base metals prices rose by 18 year-on-year, supported by relatively strong industrial demand (especially in China), limited supply and low inventories (apart from aluminium), and high freight rates. The LME Index for base metals reached a 9.5-year high of over 4,000 points at the end of February - an increase of 80 from its low in March last year.
