An unexpected excess of light from beyond the Milky Way could be evidence of decaying dark-matter particles. That is according to US astronomers who have studied data from NASA's New Horizons probe. They propose that this light could provide evidence for the decay of hypothetical particles called axions (Phys. Rev. Lett. 129 231301).
