I have read "Commentary: An Uplifting Community" and found it very interesting. Before commenting, perhaps I can give you a potted history of my career in rotorcraft and hopefully not bore you to tears. My mother's family lived in Aldershot southwest of London and my grandfather helped Cody in the organization of some of his flying activities. American Samuel Franklin Cody designed and flew British Army Aeroplane No. 1 at Aldershot in October 1908, the first flight of a powered airplane in Great Britain; he became a naturalized British Subject a year later. - Ed. I went to grammar school in Farnborough where aircraft were constantly whizzing overhead, and I remember a lesson where the teacher could not be heard as the Fairey Rotodyne flew over preparing for Farnborough Air Show (1959). I also remember a talk from Prof. Ian Cheeseman on his "flying drainpipe" concept which later evolved into the Circulation Control Rotor (CCR) concept and tested for the Lockheed/Sikorsky X-Wing stopped-rotor concept for transitioning from rotary-wing to fixed-wing flight and back.
