A recently concluded panindus-try collaboration to develop baseline best practices for reducing runway excursion risks is paying dividends, as operators and other stakeholders use the guidance to evaluate and revise their procedures. The Global Action Plan for the Prevention of Runway Excursions (Gappre) reflects input from more than 40 industry organizations, ranging from regulators to manufacturers. The collaboration, done over two years within six working groups with top-level coordination by Eurocontrol and the Flight Safety Foundation (FSF), produced a set of 100 recommendations and related guidance. They are broken up into five subsets targeting specific stakeholder subgroups: operators, manufacturers, airports, air navigation service providers and agencies. A sixth subset of recommendations focuses on research and development.
