In May, the VFS Board of Directors tasked an ad hoc committee of five Board members to review the VFS vision and mission statements (last updated by the Board in October 2011), and document the important strategic goals and initiatives currently underway by the Society. The ad hoc committee members were: 1. President of the Board: Harry Nahatis, GE (industry) 2. Technical Director: Dr. Mahendra Bhagwat, US Army (government) 3. Immediate Past Technical Director: Dr. Marilyn Smith, Georgia Tech (academia) 4. Western Region VP: Dr. Colin Theodore, NASA (government) The VFS vision and mission statements - which had last been approved by the Board in October 2011 - were updated to highlight the Board's support of the Society's imperative for inclusive and diverse leadership and membership. The Board approved the new statements this past November.
