Ever since learning of the istory of the pecan, I have been fascinated by the story of the first successful propagation. This grafting was accomplished by a man named Antoine, who was enslaved at Oak Alley Plantation in St. James Parish, Louisiana. Ihave long been interested in learning whether the product of this successful grafting still exists. I had learned that in 1876 nuts from Antoine's trees were displayed at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and that they had subsequently been given the name "Centennial."
