How important is the human inflight safety? (Chief, Medical Division, Air Corps, U.S. Army). "The narration of the experiences and observations of medical specialists contained in the early contributions to aviation medicine remain in the conscious mind of all trained flyers as an evidence of the importance of special studies in the selection of the flyer and the maintenance of his physical fitness to fly aircraft.'"Research and study, based on the demands of reasonably proficient and secure flying performance, developed a standard of physical and neuropsychic [sic] requirements which has been only fairly successful in the selection of individuals for training in military flying. The total result of the process of selection and maintenance, i.e., the application of physical standards, in approving applicants for training cannot be viewed without disappointment.
