We thank Stark for his interest in our paper describing the release of nanoplastics from polyester fabrics during washing.The objective of our study'was to determine whether polyester fabrics release in addition to microplastic fibers(MPF)and fibrils and also much smaller debris.We quantified the nanoplastic fraction and used scanning transmission X-ray microspectroscopy(STXM)and near edge X-ray absorption fine spectra(NEXAFS)to compare the observed particles to PET reference nanoplastics.Based on the match of the spectra of the particles observed in the washing solutions and the reference PET nanoplastics,we identified that PET-nano-plastics are released during washing of polyester fabrics.
