It has been an honor to share the important milestones of SPA's 40th and 50th anniversary years in the capacity of Executive Director, and with that honor comes great responsibility. While I am very proud of the list of our accomplishments, I still believe SPA has so much more to do as we look forward. Among the general aviation pilot population, we are a nano community of fewer than 24,000 seaplane pilots. When compared to the greater pilot population, and especially to other user groups such as the boating community, which numbers nearly 12,000,000 boat owners, there are a few things that I believe are critical to ensuring our future. The community needs a healthy representation and advocacy organization-the Seaplane Pilots Association- to "protect and promote" this activity we enjoy. This will require a healthy membership, an active volunteer corps, and vigilance on many fronts.
