摘要

Reduction of radar cross section (RCS) fortargets can be achieved by different approaches and coatingabsorbing materials at the surfaces of targets is one ofwidely used methods because of its flexibility and goodeffect. In the work, we put forward a novel method ofreducing the RCS based on the design of multilayer compositeabsorbing materials. The transmission line theoryand particle swarm optimization (PSO) are used to guidethe design and analysis, and two kinds of designs, i.e.,Type IV and Type VII, are selected finally. Simulationexperiments show that the designs are insensitive to theincident angles and polarizations of incident EM wave, which is required for being coated at the surfaces of realobjects. Also, the designed absorbing materials are verythin and have an ultra-wide frequency band. The bandwidthof Type-IV design can reach 14:63 GHz, rangingfrom 3:37 to 18:0 GHz, while Type-VII design can coverthe frequency range from 2:0 to 18:0 GHz, which representsthe major part of radar’s frequency range. Thedesigned absorbing materials are coated at the surfaceof a perfectly-electric-conducting (PEC) cylinder to validatethe effectiveness of the materials, and good resultshave been obtained.
