With great sadness, ANR reports the death of Sanford (Sandy) Fidell, one ofthe intellectual pioneers in the field of psychoacoustics whose groundbreakingwork on community annoyance to aircraft noise will long endure and could guidethe update of FAA’s aviation noise policy.He died peacefully at his home in Los Angeles on Feb. 26 at age 77 from anMRSA infection.In a career that spanned 60 years, Sandy worked both for and against transportationinfrastructure projects for airport, road, rail, and marine, civil and militaryapplications; participated in much environmental litigation; and publishedextensively in both archival, peer-viewed and popular journals.
