DSI (State Hydraulic Works) reports that work is well underway at two major RCC dam projects in Turkey. At the Manavgat Cardak dam, near Antalya in the south of the country, about 81 500 m~3 of material has been placed on the dam, representing about 15 per cent of the total, and overall progress at the project is 25 per cent, with access roads to the valve chambers, cofferdams and intake structures having been completed in the past year. Work is currently underway on the spillway. Completion of the scheme is expected before the end of this year. The dam will have a height of 43.5 m from its foundation, and store 7.5 × 10~6m~3 of water to provide irrigation to an area of around 1063 ha. Irrigated agriculture will enable local fanners to expand their range of crops, enabling their annual income to increase by about US$2.4 million/year. Meanwhile RCC placement has begun at the Saracay dam, 1.5 km south of Bagarasi, in the Soke district of Turkey. When complete, it will have a height of 125 m from its foundation, and a reservoir storage volume of 66 × 10~6m~3.
